The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has recently announced significant updates regarding the Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT) for the 2025 academic year. One of the major changes includes the introduction of a centralized, computer-based examination system, aiming to enhance transparency and efficiency in the assessment process. This shift represents a move towards modernizing the examination framework, aligning with global standards.
In addition to the examination format change, the PMDC has revised the MDCAT syllabus for 2025. Notable adjustments include the removal of certain topics in Biology, such as "Discovery of Virus" and "Cellular Respiration," and the addition of new topics like "Functions of Plant Hormones." These modifications are designed to streamline the syllabus and focus on core competencies essential for medical education.
Furthermore, discussions are underway within the National Assembly Standing Committee on National Health Services regarding the decentralization of the MDCAT process. The proposal suggests granting provinces greater autonomy in conducting the exam, with the PMDC focusing on overseeing licensing examinations. This initiative aims to address inconsistencies observed in previous examination cycles and improve the overall fairness of the admission process.
